I live in Montreal, where temperatures are a rollercoaster: up to 40°C in summer and -40°C in winter. Living with multiple sclerosis, I feel these changes in my body. Cold weather stiffens my legs – I walk like a robot – and snowstorms trigger neck pain. No need for a weather app to know snow’s coming!

But today, I’m not here to talk about my aches. I want to share my secret weapon for relaxation and great sleep: Epsom salt. Here’s how this little treasure transforms my evenings and prepares me for the next day.

Why Epsom Salt Is My Ally

Epsom salt, rich in magnesium, helps relax muscles and calm the nervous system. For me, it’s a must to ease the stiffness and pain from multiple sclerosis. After a chilly day, nothing warms me up better than a hot bath with this magical salt.

My favorite brand? Dr Teal's Pure Epsom Salt, Sleep Blend with Melatonin, Lavender, and Chamomile.** The scent is so soothing I have to stop myself from dozing off in the tub! I’m not one to nap just anywhere, but I’ve woken up two hours later, the water gone cold. This bath melts my pain to the point it’s almost gone.

My Perfect Bath Ritual

Water has always been my sanctuary, whether for relaxing or gentle exercise. My tub isn’t huge, but at 1.55 m, it’s perfect for me. I invested in an overflow drain cover ** to add a few extra centimeters of water, letting me float and release my body. I gently move my neck to ease stiffness, and the effect is instant.

Restful Sleep

After this bath, I sleep like a baby. The melatonin and lavender in the Epsom salt play a big role. I pair it with relaxing music – I’ll tell you more in a future post, promise! This ritual sets me up to tackle the next day, even if the weather has other plans.

What Are Your Tips?

For the ambiance, I use small candles that give off a soft glow. Here’s a picture from last night – no painted nails yet, it’s not summer yet!
