Never without my osteopath

Do you have a back ache, neck pain, or tension that's stuck around so long you've just accepted it as "normal"? After 30 years of trying chiro, massage, and everything in between, I found my osteopath — and it's been 12 years now. Here's what osteopathy actually is, why people go, and why I keep going back.

Do you have a back ache, a neck pain, a tension that's been hanging around so long you've just started calling it "normal"? You try something, it helps a bit, it comes back. You try something else, same story, and after a while you just accept that this is how it is. For me, it took 30 years to find what actually worked. I made the rounds — chiro, massage, you name it — before landing on my osteopath. I've been seeing him for 12 years now.
I'm not saying osteopathy is magic for everyone. I'm just saying if the feeling of having tried everything without much to show for it sounds familiar, it might be worth a look.
So what exactly is osteopathy?
Basically, it's manual therapy. No machines, no medication — just your osteopath's hands, assessing how your body moves, where mobility is reduced, where there's tension, and above all, what path your body has taken to compensate. Because yes, the body works as a whole: an issue in the hip can change how you walk and end up creating tension somewhere else.
The body always finds a way to get the job done — the goal is to help it find a better route.
The most common reasons people go: back pain, neck pain, headaches, chronic tension, mobility issues, recovery after a fall or accident, or stress that ends up settling in the body. So your osteopath isn't just looking at where it hurts — they're trying to understand the path your body took to get there, and how to help it find a better one.
I'll be honest with you: it doesn't work the same for everyone, because every body is different and reacts in its own way.
But for people who, like me, have been dealing with this for years without much really changing, it's worth trying — especially if your body is talking to you and you're not listening enough.
I don't always try to understand how my osteopath works his magic. I just know it works, for me.
So what about you — have you been dragging around a back ache or neck pain without finding what works? Have you found something that helps? Tell me in the comments.
